School Rules & Discipline Procedures

Clear rules and disciplinary procedures are in place to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment. Misconduct is addressed according to school policy, with an emphasis on fairness and educational value.

Code of Conduct & Virtual Etiquette

Students are expected to follow classroom norms, show respects to peers and teachers, and maintain focus and courtesy – especially in virtual settings where self-discipline and responsibility are key.

1. Be Punctual & Prepared. Log in 2 minutes early with all necessary materials ready. Respect others’ time by being prepared. 
2. Use Real Names & Appropriate Profile Photos. Maintain a professional identity in virtual spaces. 
3. Students should keep their cameras on during live sessions unless excused. Backgrounds should be neutral and non-distracting.
4. Dress Modestly & Appropriately. Even in online settings, attire should reflect respect for the learning environment.
5. Mute When Not Speaking. Prevent background noise and maintain a focused atmosphere. 
6. Use Respectful Language & Tone. Communicate with kindness and clarity, both verbally and in writing. 
7. Stay Engaged & Avoid Multitasking. Give full attention to the lesson; avoid browsing, texting, or unrelated activities.
8. Raise Hand or Use Chat Respectfully. Participate thoughtfully and wait your turn to speak. 
9. Respect Privacy & Do Not Record Without Permission. Protect classmates’ and teachers’ privacy. No sharing of personal information in chat or public forums.  
10. Follow School Technology Use Policies. Use devices and platforms responsibly and ethically.

Social Media and Networking

Social media refers to digital platforms used to share information, ideas, messages, and media. Examples include texting, messaging apps, web, and others.

At Joy Academy Online, we recognize that social media is neutral—it can be used to uplift or to harm. We expect students and families to use discernment and integrity in all online communication.

Digital Wisdom & Christian Witness

What you post online is both permanent and public. Assume that anything shared with friends may be seen by classmates, teachers, and families. Avoid any post that could damage your Christian witness or the reputation of Joy Academy Online.

Inappropriate Content

Students who post or share inappropriate material may face disciplinary action, including probation, suspension, or expulsion, as outlined in this handbook.

Inappropriate content includes but is not limited to:

• Images or references to alcohol, drugs, or substance use
• Profane, vulgar, obscene, or rude language
• Sexually suggestive or provocative images
• Smoking or vaping content
• Threats, harassment, or cyberbullying
• Disrespectful remarks about the school, staff, or families
• Knowingly false or defamatory information
